Highlights from the 2017 SSG Track and Field Championships

The top youth girls 100 meter dash was ran by Mirlege Castor, of Fort Myers, with a time of 12.11. Castor is considered the top sprinter in Lee County for South Fort Myers High School and has signed a letter of intent to run at Middle Tennessee State.

Elyssa Paulding, of East Bay High School in Gibsonton, won three gold medals with the longest female Javelin (85-07) and Discus (122-06) throws and the second longest shot put (38-04) of the youth and open and master’s competition.

Dondre Swint, of the Fast Lane Track Club, ran the fastest boy’s youth 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.11 and 22.60, respectively. Besides his abilities on the track, Swint was a wide receiver for the Atlantic High School football team in Delray Beach.

Tallahassee distance runner, Brian Hickey won SSG gold medals for the 15th consecutive year, a streak dating back to 2002. At the 2017 Championships, Hickey won the 800, 1500 and 3000 meter runs in the 45-49 age group. Over the 15 year streak he has won 39 gold medals and a silver in the 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 meter races.
