2004 Sunshine State Games Flag Football Results

A last second touchdown in the Kissimmee SRT was the only thing keeping Orlando’s Horsemen from a perfect season in the Sunshine State Games Flag Football Championships. The Horsemen won four games last weekend at Stuart’s Halpatioke Park to take the A Division trophy of the State Championships defeating Mugs & Jugs of Hialeah in the final 27-20 and finish the season with a 14-1 record.

The top-ranked Horsemen advanced to the second round with a forfeit win over Split Decision and defeated Zimmer Alliance 32-6. In the semi-final game against the second-ranked Rusty Anchor team from St. Petersburg, the Horsemen prevailed 28-27 to reach the championship game.

Third-ranked Mugs & Jugs lost a first round game against A-1 Metalcraft and won four games in the loser’s bracket to reach the final. Mugs & Jugs defeated three top five ranked teams gaining loser’s bracket victories against Zimmer Alliance, Alpha Omega and Rusty Anchor.

Group One Mortgage, of Jupiter, won the B Division allowing only 19 points in the semi-final round and championship game, both against Domino’s of Tampa. Group One defeated Domino’s 28-13 in the semi-final, to drop them into the loser’s bracket. Domino’s then beat the Ruff Riders of St. Petersburg 27-7 to set up a championship game rematch, where Group One prevailed again with a 20-6 win.

The two teams were knotted at halftime 6-6 before wide receiver Napoleon Outlaw caught two second-half touchdown passes and had an interception as Group One shut out Domino’s in the second half.

“We played very well defensively in two games against a very good Domino’s team,” said Group One team captain Bobby Bashwiner. “We added some good offense in those two games scoring all but one time we had the ball.”

Hope Chiropractic of Palm Beach Gardens averaged over 36 points per game in four games to march to the C Division championship defeating Big Daddy’s of Fort Myers 34-20 in the final. Hope Chiropractic beat TCB 37-18 in the first round, FL Crystals 40-7 in the second round and Big Daddy’s 34-27 in the semi-final. Big Daddy’s defeated TCB 33-6 in the loser’s bracket to set up the championship rematch with Hope.
